GigaOm is reporting that AOL is “on the verge” of buying TechCrunch, the tech blog founded by attorney-turned-blogger Michael Arrington. GigaOm founder Om Malik reports that “the deal is at a sensitive stage and might fall apart just yet, but I don’t think so. Sources familiar to both entities says that the announcement is likely to come onstage at Disrupt, the TechCrunch’s flagship conference currently underway in San Francisco.”
Malik goes on to write that AOL CEO Tim Armstrong “is likely to make an appearance at the conference, and perhaps that is when the announcement is likely to be made.”
If TechCrunch is, indeed, purchased, one has to wonder if tech blogs GigaOm and VentureBeat will be snapped up next.
We’ll bring you more details as they emerge.
