Andrew P. Dempsey, former chief operating officer of Fortress Investment Group's Permanent Capital Business Group, has joined Easterly Capital, a private investment firm founded by former Affiliated Managers Group chief financial officer Darrell Crate. Dempsey will be responsible for capital formation and business development.

Newlight Technologies has successfully completed a Series C financing round, raising $9.2 million from both new and existing investors, and bringing the company's total capital raised to $18.8 million. Argos Therapeutics has increased the size of its previously announced Series E financing by $17.5 million, bringing the total amount of committed funds from $42.5 million to $60 million. iSTAR Medical SA, a privately held ophthalmic device company and first spinout of Healionics Corporation, has raised a Series A financing. The financing was co-led by Capricorn Health-Tech Fund NV and Societe Regionale d'Investissement de Wallonie and included participation from Financière Spin-off Luxembourgeoise and Namur Invest - Preface.

Mobile-first legal startup Shake has raised $3 million in venture capital financing. SoftBank Capital led the Series A round of funding with participation from existing investor RRE Ventures and from new investors BoxGroup, ENIAC Ventures, Mesa+, WGI Group, and Patrick Keane.

Sobera Capital has acquired the venture capital fund BayTech Venture Capital from Bayerische Landesbank, European Investment Bank, Bpifrance, Versicherungskammer Bayern and BayernLB Capital Partners. Sobera Capital was backed in this secondary direct transaction by Unigestion.

Howzat Partners (backers of Trivago), MMC Ventures (backers of AlexandAlexa) and Forward Investment Partners (existing investors and backers of uSwitch and Hailo) took part. Other participants in this round include Meyer Bergman, Playfair Capital and Ballpark Ventures, as well as Marc Hazan (of Spotify) and Miroma Ventures (investors in Pinterest).

Catalyze.io, a cloud-based healthcare technology company, has closed a Series A financing round co-led by Baird Capital’s venture capital group, Arthur Ventures and Chicago Ventures, with participation from the State of Wisconsin Investment Board, Gener8tor, Angels on the Water and other individual investors. The company is a cloud-based healthcare technology company.

August has raised $8 million in Series A funding. The round was led by Maveron, with participation from Cowboy Ventures, Industry Ventures, Rho Ventures, and SoftTech VC.

eClinicalWorks is investing $50 million over the next 12 months to further enhance and expand its patient engagement tools. Part of this funding will be used to hire an additional 100 software developers.
