Data spotlight: VC-backed German companies lead Europe in October

The United Kingdom saw 33 startups that raised capital in October.

However, it was Germany that stood apart, as 27 German companies collectively raised $250 million during the month, according to a VCJ analysis of data from Thomson Reuters. (See table below.)

German battery maker Sonnen GmbH helped lift the country with an $83 million round that included Chrysalix SET BV, Ecapital Entrepreneurial Partners AG, MVP Management GmbH, GE Ventures and CEZ Nova Energetika.

In the United Kingdom, the 33 companies together raised about $205 million.

France was the third most active country, as 28 startups raised $152 million.

Irish oncology company Carrick Therapeutics Ltd raised the largest financing round of any European company in October. Carrick raised $95 million in a funding led by ARCH Venture Partners and Woodford Investment Management and which included Cambridge Enterprise, Evotec AG, GV, Lightstone Ventures and Cambridge Innovation Capital.
