Digi Buys MobiApps

Digi International Inc. (Nasdaq: DGII) has acquired MobiApps Holdings, a Herndon, Va.-based developer of machine-to-machine communications solutions. No financial terms were disclosed. MobiApps had raised around $18 million in VC funding, from firms like Intel Capital, Green Dot Capital, UOB Venture Management and 3i Group.

ORBCOMM Inc. (Nasdaq: ORBC), a global satellite data communications company focused on providing Machine to Machine (M2M) solutions, announced that Digi International® Inc. (NASDAQ: DGII) has entered the market for satellite Subscriber Communicators for the ORBCOMM network with its recent purchase of MobiApps Holdings Private Limited (MobiApps). MobiApps is a developer of M2M communications technology, focusing on ORBCOMM satellite, cellular and hybrid satellite/cellular solutions.

“We are very proud to welcome Digi as a manufacturer of Subscriber Communicators for the ORBCOMM global M2M network,” says Marc Eisenberg, CEO of ORBCOMM. “We continue to be impressed by the innovation that MobiApps brings to Subscriber Communicator design. Now, under the Digi umbrella, that technology can reach a larger market. As a leader in M2M, Digi brings considerable expertise in product design and distribution, with a strong presence throughout the world.”

“Our wireless M2M customers are increasingly asking for satellite as a communications option to complete their coverage model,” said Joe Dunsmore, Chairman, President, and CEO of Digi. “We’re looking forward to moving MobiApps products into Digi’s strong global sales and distribution network. We believe that satellite M2M will be a high growth opportunity for the foreseeable future.”

The acquisition of MobiApps by Digi will result in Satellite Communicators that are especially suited to applications that cross country and continental boundaries, providing connectivity in very remote locations, and providing mission critical wireless backup solutions when cellular coverage is insufficient. Digi will continue to produce the MobiApps M10, M100, M200 Subscriber Communicator models, as well as the custom designed and patented mixed signal application specific integrated circuit (ASIC), that it supplies to other module manufacturers.
