Fenox Ventures Inc led a funding round for Edyn, a system that lets you interact with your garden through your mobile device. Ideabulb Ventures, Morningside Group, Indicator Ventures and others participated in the round. Edyn has attracted $2 million in seed funding.
OAKLAND, Calif. – February 10, 2016 – Edyn, the smart garden system that allows you to interact with and nurture your garden through your mobile device, today announced it has secured funding led by Fenox Ventures, Inc as well as strategic partnerships in Asia to expand internationally. Other participants in the round include Ideabulb Ventures, Morningside Group, Indicator Ventures and angel investors. This funding news comes on the heels of Edyn debuting its Water Valve, a smart irrigation controller that connects with existing watering systems to deliver the right amount of water to plants without waste, at the 2016 International CES in Las Vegas earlier this year.
The additional capital will be used to support the retail rollout of the Water Valve, develop new products, access commercial industries and expand internationally, beginning with the Japanese market. The investment highlights the growing demand for advanced agriculture technology in the consumer and commercial sector as the need for increased food production to meet estimated population growth of 9.6 billion by 2050 grows exponentially.
“I originally conceived of Edyn as a way to help farmers in Kenya grow their crops more efficiently through near real-time data analysis and recommendations,” said Edyn CEO and Founder Jason Aramburu. “This expansion offers a tremendous opportunity to extend Edyn’s use commercially while maintaining its utility for consumer gardeners, as well as helping to reach sustainability on a local and global scale. Fenox was the ideal partner to help us forge those partnerships and lead the round.”
The Edyn smart garden system, comprising the solar-powered, Wi-Fi-enabled Garden Sensor and Water Valve, provides consumers with a way to stay connected to their garden and ensures they can be successful in helping their plants thrive. Now, Edyn will be available to farmers and industries in Japan, thanks to partnerships with companies like Innotech, which is in discussions to localize and distribute Edyn in the country. Edyn also plans to expand to other countries in Asia and throughout Europe.
“Edyn is uniquely positioned to address the agriculture needs of the growing global economy, particularly in Asia,” said Brent Traidman, General Partner, Fenox Venture Capital. “We look forward to continuing the partnership that we’ve had with Edyn since its Y Combinator days to help expand in this fecund market and beyond.”
