Jay-Z’s Marcy Venture Partners closes second fund

The San Francisco firm, founded by rapper Jay-Z, has closed its second fund with more than $325m in commitments.

San Francisco-based Marcy Venture Partners – which was co-founded by musician Jay-Z and whose legal name is Shawn Carter – has raised more than $325 million for its second fund, according to a regulatory filing. The fund was raised from 94 LPs. Listed on the filing are co-founders Lawrence Marcus and Laurence Brown Jr.

Marcy closed its debut fund in early 2020 with $85 million in commitments. The inaugural fund featured Carter’s name on the regulatory document along with co-founders Marcus and Brown. Marcus is a longtime venture capitalist with Walden Venture Capital, and Brown is co-founder with Jay-Z of entertainment company Roc Nation.
