Sound Ventures, a Los Angeles-based venture firm founded by Ashton Kutcher and Guy Oseary, has named Effie Epstein as managing partner and chief operating officer.
Previously, Epstein was in charge of global strategy at Marsh, a division of financial services firm Marsh & McLennan.
Epstein will oversee the day-to-day management of the fund, including fund allocation and strategy, investments and portfolio company value creation.
She told VCJ that the firm takes a broad market view, investing in consumer and enterprise tech. Portfolio companies include Gusto, Neighborly and Robinhood, among others.
“We’ve taken a particular interest in a number of sectors where we believe step-change innovation is imminent,” she said in an email, citing financial services, healthcare and insurance.
The firm also announced that Maaria Bajwa will join the firm as an associate. Most recently, Bajwa was a senior associate with ICG Advisors, where she handled due diligence and market research for alternative investment strategies.
