Milwaukee-based advertising tech and ecommerce firm Okanjo has received $1.7 million in funding. The investors were not named.
MILWAUKEE — Okanjo, a Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based advertising technology/ecommerce company, recently closed their latest fundraising round. A combination of debt and equity, the company raised $1.7 million from a group of undisclosed investors.
This capital will be used, in part, to launch Native Commerce, an ecommerce-enabled advertising solution that allows brands to sell products or offers directly on any third-party web page. Okanjo’s Native Commerce enables immediate intervention to drive customer conversion at the moment of relevance, all this while never leaving the page.
By making key hires, Okanjo plans to speed up the development of Native Commerce and rapidly deploy to awaiting customers.
“Our Cloud Commerce platform has been extremely well received since launching earlier this year, and Native Commerce is exactly the type of application our platform was built for. We enable unique and powerful eCommerce experiences across the web,” said Brendon Thomas, president of Okanjo. “This new capital allows us to scale our team and operations to meet demand, and further innovate in the native commerce space.”
In addition to their new product and fundraising announcement, Okanjo will launch its Native Commerce platform with Capital Newspapers. Capital Newspapers is a partnership between LEE Enterprises (NYSE:LEE) and The Capital Times Company. LEE Enterprises is a leading provider of local news including 46 daily newspapers and 300 specialty publications that reach 25 million unique visitors a month, and The Capital Times Company operates 27 publications and several websites in Wisconsin.
“Native Commerce is an exciting new way for digital publishers to connect buyers with local businesses, providing contextual shopping opportunities without driving viewers off-site,” said Rusty Coats, President of Coats2Coats, a consulting firm that works with dozens of media companies. “It takes the conversation of ‘native advertising’ to a new and actionable level.”
