PRESS RELEASE
New York, NY — October 14, 2020 — Playbook, a mobile marketplace enabling top instructors in fitness and athletics to turn their iPhone content into subscription income, announces that it has raised $9.3M in Series A funding from investors including E.ventures, Michael Ovitz, Abstract, Aglae Ventures, Porsche Ventures and FJ Labs. This latest round of funding adds to a $3M round raised in June, bringing total funding for Playbook to $12.3M.
Co-founded in 2017 by Jeff Krahel, Michael Wojcieszek, and Kasper Ødegaard, the Playbook app now features over 250+ fitness instructors who have published a total of more than 40,000 workouts on the platform. Top instructors include Boss Everline, trainer to Kevin Hart; Magnus Lydgback, trainer to Gal Gadot and Alicia Vikander; Don Saladino, trainer to Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, and many other top instructors you’d find on Instagram such as Nick Bare, Julian Smith, Ruba Ali, Hannah Bower, and Morgan Tyler. The platform is continually adding new instructors and programs across a range of disciplines like yoga, meditation, pre & postnatal sports, and personal training.
“Especially when it comes to digital, creators are the change makers — they are the ones improving lives and making a difference. We’re excited investors believe in our thesis of a ‘creator first’ business model,” said Jeff Krahel, co-founder and CEO of Playbook. “We’re incredibly proud of the traction that Playbook has seen to date. With this new round of funding we get to double down on the technology and services we provide to creators, which will ultimately result in an unparalleled consumer experience.”
Playbook is the only fitness app that puts content creation, distribution, audience building, and revenue generation directly in the hands of the trainers themselves; in some cases, creators have earned in excess of $1M per year on the Playbook platform.
