Rob Solomon has joined Chicago-based social commerce website Groupon as president and chief operating officer. He previously was a venture partner with Technology Crossover Ventures and, before that, was president and CEO of travel search site SideStep. Groupon has raised nearly $35 million in VC funding from firms like Accel Partners and New Enterprise Associates.
Groupon (http://www.groupon.com), the social commerce website that offers a daily deal on the best local goods, services and cultural events in more than 40 cities nationwide, is pleased to announce that Rob Solomon has joined the company as President and Chief Operating Officer.

Solomon has extensive experience in senior management, business operations, product management, product development, M&A and strategy. Most recently, Solomon was a Venture Partner at Palo Alto, CA-based Technology Crossover Ventures, one of the largest and most successful growth equity stage venture capital firms with $8 billion under management. Previously, Solomon served as the President and CEO of SideStep, the web’s first real-time vertical search engine in the travel category, and led a successful turnaround and $200 million all-cash merger with Kayak. Prior to SideStep, Solomon served in multiple executive management roles at Yahoo!, including Senior Vice President, Commerce and Vice President/General Manager of the Yahoo Shopping Group responsible for Yahoo’s Shopping, Travel, Auctions, Classifieds, Real Estate, E-Commerce Hosting and Vertical Product Search businesses. Other prior roles included product management and marketing at Electronic Arts, Cendant, Golfweb and Zaplet.
