Runway Growth Capital promotes Chen to managing director and Lai and Khubani to principal

Chen joined Runway in 2017, Lai came on board in 2020 and Khubani joined in 2018.

Runway Growth Capital LLC, a provider of growth loans to both venture and non-venture-backed companies, has promoted Edward Chen to managing director and Yifan Lai and Avisha Khubani to principal.

“Edward, Yifan and Avisha have been integral to ensuring that Runway identifies and selects the right opportunities and that we do everything possible to support portfolio companies while protecting our investors’ capital,” said Greg Greifeld, managing director, deputy chief investment officer and head of credit at Runway, in a statement. “Their collective attention to due diligence, deal structuring, and portfolio monitoring has contributed to the consistent strength of our credit quality and makes Runway stand out in a crowded field of capital providers servicing late and growth stage companies.”

Chen joined Runway Growth Capital in April 2017. Before Runway, he was a private equity associate at Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe.

Lai came on board in Runway Growth Capital in July 2020. Before Runway, he was a senior associate and founding team member at Freemark Partners, the family investment firm for Howard Marks, co-founder of Oaktree Capital.

Khubani joined the Runway team in October 2018. Previously, she was a vice president with Duff & Phelps (now known as Kroll) within the portfolio valuation service line.

Led by David Spreng, Runway provides senior term loans of $10 million to $100 million to companies based in the U.S. and Canada.
