Fabless semiconductor startup Bonsai Micro inks seed round

Bonsai Micro is a Vancouver-based fabless semiconductor startup developing critical infrastructure technology for next-generation wireless networks, including 5G.

Bonsai Micro, a Vancouver-based fabless semiconductor startup developing critical infrastructure technology for next-generation wireless networks, including 5G, has raised seed financing. No financial terms were disclosed.

Vanedge Capital led the round with participation from BDC Capital’s Deep Tech Venture Fund.

Bonsai Micro was founded by a team of semiconductor veterans with a track record of delivering innovative products at PMC-Sierra (now Microchip Technology). Bernard Guay is the company’s CEO.

Bonsai Micro combines millimeter wave/radio frequency, mixed signal and machine learning design techniques to support performance and energy efficiency for next-generation wireless networks.

With the ongoing deployment of new 5G networks and the imperative need for domestic semiconductor technology in North America, especially for 5G, the opportunity is massive.”

Based in Vancouver, Vanedge Capital invests in early-stage companies with a focus on next-generation analytics, computational biology and disruptive deep technology platforms.

BDC Capital is the investment arm of the Business Development Bank of Canada. The Deep Tech Venture Fund invests in the development of transformational technologies in sectors like quantum, electronics, photonics, foundational artificial intelligence and related fields.
