Element Partners, a cleantech-focused VC firm, has named Sujit Banerjee as a managing director. He had joined the firm last year as a part-time operating partner. He is a former partner with BueRun Ventures.
Element Partners, the Philadelphia-based cleantech growth equity firm, announced today that Sujit Banerjee has joined full time as a Managing Director.
“Sujit joined Element as an Operating Partner last year and we are delighted to announce that he has now joined our partnership full time,” said Element Managing Partner David Lincoln. “We have worked with Sujit as a co-investor over the course of the last nine years, and he has repeatedly demonstrated exceptional capabilities and instincts as an investor.” David continued, “He has been an invaluable resource to us over the years, and we are confident that his strong technical background will complement our investment capabilities.”
Sujit brings over 10 years of investment experience to Element, where he has already co-sponsored investment initiatives in Deeya Energy and Petra Solar – both promising portfolio companies. Sujit will lead Element’s efforts in power storage, semiconductors, and power electronics, and will expand Element’s efforts in photovoltaics. Sujit is currently on the Board of Directors of both Deeya Energy and Petra Solar, and stepped in as acting COO for Deeya where he is credited with leading the Company’s go-to-market strategy in India.
Prior to joining Element, Sujit was a Partner with BlueRun Ventures where he founded their Cleantech practice as well as their India office. In addition to leading BlueRun’s investments in Petra and Deeya, Sujit’s other investments included Slicex, Cyoptics, Magsil, Nexplanar, and Sasken (BSE: SASKEN). Prior to BlueRun, Sujit was a Principal with TL Ventures where he led investments in pre-IPO companies Atrenta and Sonics, both respected leaders in their field. Prior to TL, Sujit’s professional experience included investment banking with Merrill Lynch, management consulting for several companies in the semiconductor industry, and working as an engineer with Synoptics Communications.
Sujit received his M.B.A. from the Wharton Business School, where he was Chairman of the Wharton India Economic Forum, and holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with Eta Kappa Nu academic honors.
