The Most Consistently Top Performing VC, PE, and Funds of Funds: List

Preqin, the private equity data provider, has just released a new report featuring details about which funds it deems the most consistent outperformers among private equity, venture capital, and fund of funds managers.

The data excludes funds closed in 2011, 2012, or 2013 and any funds for which Preqin doesn’t have performance data. (The company says it has data for more than 6,300 funds, or more than 70% of the capital raised historically.)

Preqin has also restricted its list to active fund managers that have raised at least three funds of a similar strategy, and have either raised a fund in the past six years or are currently raising a fund of a similar strategy to their predecessor fund.

Also worth noting about Preqin’s methodology: It assigned quartile rankings to the funds below based on both their multiple and IRR, taking into account the fund vintage, strategy and geographic focus. Top quartile funds were given a score of one, second quartile funds were given a score of two, and so on.
