PRESS RELEASE

(Calgary, AB) Virtual Gurus is pleased to announce that it has completed $1.2 Million in financing from investors including Raven Indigenous Capital, The51 and Ryan Lailey, an active startup investor and Virtual Gurus board member. This investment marks a milestone in the evolution of Virtual Gurus. The funding, their first venture capital, will enable the company to accelerate its growth in Canada and the United States, and further support the company’s commitment to the Indigenous community by hiring in remote areas. The financing will proceed in two tranches, the first, $925,000, has been received with the remainder following in early summer.

“When I started Virtual Gurus in 2016, I knew that I wanted to build a business that contributes to society in a meaningful and sustainable manner and to me that was through a social mission of creating employment opportunities for marginalized individuals for whom a nine-to-five office job isn’t accessible,” commented Bobbie Racette, Founder and CEO of Virtual Gurus. “I am extremely proud of the work Virtual Gurus continues to do in this area and feel this is reflected by the support we received from Raven and The51, who share the same values.”

Virtual Gurus is a Virtual Assistant (VA) marketplace that matches businesses and entrepreneurs with onshore freelancers from North America using a proprietary algorithm. The company allows users and businesses of any size who need support to select their own dedicated VA based on their requirements. The technology behind Virtual Gurus makes it easy for users can scale up or down as needed.

Since its inception in 2016, Virtual Gurus has successfully built several large remote teams for enterprise customers. The company has a large customer base and has serviced clients such as Shopify, ReMax, Waste Management, Out TV, Videotron, Goldtooth Productions, and startups like Mylo and Riipen.

“We are excited to support the next phase of Virtual Gurus growth and development. The company has flourished under Bobbie’s visionary leadership,” said Stephen Nairne, Chief Investment Officer at Raven. “She has developed a profitable and scalable business model that both reflects and expresses Indigenous values.”

Raven Indigenous Capital Partners believe that investing from a platform of Indigenous values can address society’s biggest social, economic, and environmental challenges. Raven’s objective is to help Indigenous entrepreneurs achieve their goals, strengthen the Indigenous economy, and have a positive and lasting impact on the ecosystem.
The51 is a female-powered capital organization on a mission to activate more female-led capital towards female-founded businesses in Canada.

“We’re extremely proud to support Virtual Gurus as they empower a diverse and underutilized workforce – women. Women who for various reasons only work from home, indigenous and marginalized women who are frequently overlooked and/or denied professional opportunities, women in remote areas, and women juggling multiple roles and responsibilities. As more women enter the workforce in their communities, economic health improves on both a local and national scale,” said Shelley Kuipers, Co-founder of The51.

Virtual Gurus’ founder and CEO, Bobbie Racette, recently won the Startup Canada Indigenous Entrepreneur Award and believes in giving back to the Indigenous community she is proud to come from. Furthermore, the company has been earning awards and accolades within the startup, business, and tech communities and is excited to continue its impressive pace.

Apart from a small friends and family round when at launch, Ms. Racette has bootstrapped the Company and looks forward to the exciting future and forthcoming growth of the Virtual Gurus.
