PRESS RELEASE
Wello (www.wello.co), the world’s first platform offering live online personal training over two-‐way video, today announced that it has closed a $1 million Series Seed round. Backers for this round include Rock Health investors from Kleiner Perkins, Mohr Davidow, Aberdare Ventures and Mayo Ventures as well as Morado Ventures, S-‐Cubed Capital, PhilQuo Ventures and other prominent angel investors. The company will use the funding to support its growth by enhancing sales and business developments efforts as well as expanding the team.
Launched in July 2012, Wello makes getting and staying fit more convenient and affordable. Wello enables consumers to choose from over 150 fitness professionals to work out with over live two-‐way video. Trainers personalize each workout session so that it aligns with a client’s specific interests and needs.
Wello has experienced rapid growth and high customer retention rates since its launch. The company reports that more than 2/3 of people who try a Wello workout will come back for additional workouts. Repeat users complete on average 5.5 sessions a month. “We have hit a chord among people for whom the gym doesn’t work,” says co-‐founder and co-‐CEO Ann Scott Plante. “Our clients love us because we provide the accountability and effectiveness that comes with working out with a trainer and the convenience of exercising from home.”
Wello’s focus on securing the highest quality fitness professionals with a wide range of specialties (Pilates, kettlebells, kickboxing, yoga, core conditioning, personal training, etc.) has no doubt contributed to impressive customer retention rates. “Since launching in July, we’ve had tremendous success in building a bench of highly talented trainers that are keeping customers coming back again and again,” says Leslie Silverglide, co-‐ founder and co-‐CEO of Wello.
With the investment, Wello plans to expand by hiring additional engineering and marketing talent. “We’re honored to have backing from such an impressive group of investors. The investment will allow us to further grow our platform, build our team and continue to offer fitness and wellness services that our customers love,” says Silverglide.
