New York City-based GoKid, a provider of carpool solutions for schools, teams and families, has secured $1.5 million in funding. The investor was VilCap Investments.
Alpha Biopharma Inc, a biopharmaceutical company for the Chinese and global markets, has closed $37 million in its $65 million Series A funding round. Qiming Venture Partners led the round with participation from other investors that included TF Fund and the LYZZ Healthcare Venture Fund. In conjunction with the funding, Dr. William Hu, managing partner of Qiming Venture Partners, will join Alpha Biopharma's board of directors.
Fabric, a provider of affordable life insurance for new parents, has raised $10 million in Series A funding. Bessemer Venture Partners led the round with participation from other backers that included RGAx and Silicon Valley Bank.
Columbia Falls, Montana-based ViZn Energy Systems Inc has raised $15 million in funding. The investors were not named. In addition to the funding, ViZn's staff will be returning after a furlough. Also, the company has named John Lowell, who has been serving as chief operating officer as CEO.
UK-based HCT Group, a community transport operator, has secured a 17.8 million pounds in funding. The investor was ClearlySo.
San Francisco-based Kinetica, an instant insight engine provider for the extreme data economy, has named Michael Mahoney as worldwide vice president of solution engineering. Prior to joining the firm, he was the vice president of solution engineers at MapR. Kinetica is backed by Canvas Ventures, Citi Ventures, GreatPoint Ventures and Meritech Capital Partners.
Boston-based ezCater, a business catering marketplace, has raised $100 million in Series D funding. Wellington Management Company LLP led the round with participation from other backers that included ICONIQ Capital and Insight Venture Partners.
Crate.io, which provides a scalable SQL database, has raised $11 million in Series A funding. Zetta Venture Partners and Deutsche Invest Equity led the round with participation from Mike Chalfen, Momenta Partners, Charlie Songhurst, Draper Esprit, Vito Ventures and Solomon Hykes.
Viva Republica, a Korean fintech startup and maker of financial services app Toss, has secured $40 million in funding. The investors were GIC and Sequoia China.
Microsoft has acquired Minneapolis-based Flipgrid, an educational social video startup, according to a blog post on the latter company's website. No financial terms were disclosed. Flipgrid was backed by Brightstone Venture Capital and Arthur Ventures.
