Breakthrough said Thursday that it has received $5 million in Series A financing. Social+Capital Partnership was the lead investor. First Round Capital and Great Oaks Venture Capital also participated in the round. Headquartered in Redwood City, Calif., Breakthrough is a provider of online counseling and psychiatry services.
Deliv said Thursday that it has named Micki Seibel vice president of product. In her new position, Seibel will direct Deliv's customer experience initiatives. Prior to joining Deliv, Seibel was vice president of product at Linqia, Plum District and SmartyCard. Headquartered in Palo Alto, Calif. and backed by General Catalyst Partners, Redpoint, PivotNorth Capital, Trinity Ventures and Operators Fund, Deliv is a provider of same-day delivery.
GreenLancer.com said Thursday that it has raised $500,000 in Series A funding. The investors include Bizdom, Start Garden, Blue Water Angels, Northern Michigan Angels and a private investor. Based in Detroit, GreenLancer.com is a web-based solar energy engineering company.
Silvercar, which is backed by Austin Ventures, has raised $5 million in funding, according to a filing with the SEC and as reported by several news sources. Although no further information is available, Luke Schneider, CEO of Silvercar did issue the following statement about the funding: "The equity capital will be used to commence operations in additional markets and develop our offering for rapid expansion. In just six months since launching at DFW, Silvercar has grown to serve four locations, and we plan to add a new location each quarter." Based in Texas, Silvercar is a provider of airport car rentals.  
Comprehend Systems has closed $8.4 million in Series A funding. The lead investor was Sequoia Capital. Aaron Levie, Nils Johnson, Zod Nazem, Zorba Lieberman and the Life Science Angel Network also participated in the round. Also, Warren Hogarth, a partner at Sequoia Capital, joins Comprehend's board of directors. Based in Palo Alto, Calif., Comprehend Systems is a provider of cloud-based solutions.
FreedomPop said Thursday that it has received $5 million in funding from existing investors. According to the company, the funding will be used for growth and expansion. Also, FreedomPop has added Nextel Co-Founder Chris Rogers as a board advisor. Backed by Mangrove Capital, DCM and Skype Founder Niklas Zennstom's Atomico, FreedomPop is a free wireless internet provider.
BackOps said Thursday that it has raised $7 million in Series A funding. Sherpa Ventures and e.ventures were the lead investors. Google Ventures and existing seed investors CrunchFund and Mark Pincus also participated in the round. In addition to the funding news, Tim Whipple joins the company as vice president of customer success. Headquartered in San Francisco, BackOps is a provider of software solutions for small to medium-sized businesses.
Singapore-based Asia Pacific Investment House has raised $50 million in funding for Resort Development Paradise Haven in St. Kitts & Nevis. The capital will be used for job creation and resort development.
Zoomdata said Wednesday that it has raised $4.1 million in Series A financing. The lead investor was Columbus Nova Technology Partners. Razor's Edge, CIT and B7 also participated in the round. According to Zoomdata, the funding will be used by the company to expand its engineering, operations, sales and marketing teams. Based in Reston, Virginia, Zoomdata is a provider of data analytics.
The Saïd Business School Seed Fund said Wednesday that it will be investing £20,000 each to two start-ups founded by Oxford alumni: ACE Consensus Ltd and Onfido Ltd. ACE is a digital platform that provides information about market expectations while Onfido is a provider of pre-employment background checks and reference reports. Founded by MBA students at Oxford University's Saïd Business School, the Saïd Business School Seed Fund focuses on making annual investments of £15-25K per start-ups led by Oxford students and alumni.
