Burrill & Co.'s venture capital group has agreed to provide up to $10 million in debt financing to Acusphere Inc. Acusphere, of Cambridge, Mass. is a specialty pharmaceutical company that develops new drugs and improved formulations of existing drugs. Burrill & Co. is a life sciences company. Symform has closed a $4 million financing round led by Longworth Venture Partners. OVP, Symform's original venture investor, also participated. As part of the financing, Longworth’s Nilanjana Bhowmik will join Symform’s board. Symform, of Seattle, provides backup and disaster recovery services.
Zenprise Inc. announced Wednesday a $9 million round of financing. Rembrandt Venture Partners led the round, which also included Ignition Partners, Bay Partners, Mayfield and Shasta Ventures. Zenprise, of Fremont, Calif., provides enterprise mobile management and device management software.
Aepona, which announced a $10 million C round of investment in May, said Wednesday that SAP Ventures has agreed to join the round. SAP joins Amadeus Capital Partners, which is Aepona's lead investor, along with other existing investors, including Polaris Ventures, Innovacom, Nordic Venture Partners and Sutter Hill Ventures. Aepona provides software and services to Telcos.
Calistoga Pharmaceuticals Inc. said Wednesday that it has closed a $40 million Series C funding. Quogue Capital LLC led the financing, along with existing investors Alta Partners, Amgen Ventures, Frazier Healthcare and Three Arch Partners and new investor Latterell Venture Partners. Calistoga develops isoform-selective phosphatidylinositol 3 kinase (PI3K) inhibitors for the treatment of cancer and inflammatory diseases.
Zayo Group agreed Wednesday to buy American Fiber Systems Holding Corp., a provider of metropolitan fiber network and telecom services. Financial terms were not disclosed. AFS was founded by David Rusin, the former president of Frontier Communications. AFS received funding from Sierra Ventures, Lucent Ventures and North Atlantic Capital. Zayo of Louisville, Colo., provides bandwidth infrastructure and network neutral colocation services.
Solargen Energy said late Tuesday that it raised $4.1 million in financing by issuing Series B convertible preferred stock, plus warrants, to two private investors: UMC Capital Corp. and Chinatrust Venture Capital Corp. AqueSys Inc. said Tuesday that secured $35 million in Series C financing. Longitude Capital and Rho Ventures led the round, with participation from existing investors Accuitive Medical Ventures, The Carlyle Group and SV Life Sciences. AqueSys is a medical device company that develops and makes implants for glaucoma.
Zymeworks Inc. , a Vancouver-based antibody-based therapeutics startup, has raised C$3.2 million in new VC funding led by return backer CTI Life Sciences Fund.
