Christopher McFadden Joins Health Evolution Partners

Christopher McFadden has joined Health Evolution Partners to launch a New York office, and as a managing director of the firm’s growth fund. He previously was a managing director with Goldman Sachs.

David J. Brailer, MD, PhD, Chairman of Health Evolution Partners, announced today an expansion of the Health Evolution Partners Growth Fund investing team. The Health Evolution Partners Growth Fund invests in profitable and growing companies that are poised to become market leaders in the health care industry.

 

Brailer also announced that Christopher McFadden, a former managing director at Goldman Sachs Group, Inc., has joined Health Evolution Partners as a managing director of the Growth Fund and will establish the New York office for Health Evolution Partners.

The members of the Health Evolution Partners Growth Fund team include:

 

Adam Grossman, Principal, has over a decade of health care experience as an investor, operator and consultant. He led health care investing for Aetna as a Managing Director and Founder of Aetna Ventures. Prior to Aetna, Mr. Grossman was a management consultant at McKinsey & Co. His operating experience includes being a founding member of Principalcare, a physician practice management company, and a member of the business development team at MedAlliance, previously known as ImageAmerica. Mr. Grossman graduated from Dartmouth College with a BA in Government and received his MBA from Harvard Business School.

 

Braden Kelly, Senior Advisor, served as a Partner and Managing Director of General Atlantic, a global private equity investment firm. He was with General Atlantic from 1995 until his retirement at the end of 2006. Mr. Kelly served as head of General Atlantic’s Palo Alto office and global health care practice, and as a member of its Investment Committee. He has served on public and private boards of technology, health care technology and health care services companies. Prior to joining General Atlantic, he worked in the Investment Banking division at Morgan Stanley & Co. Mr. Kelley graduated with highest honors from the University of Notre Dame and received a Bachelors of Business Administration degree in Finance and Business Economics.

 

Brian Kirkbride, Vice President, has over 10 years of health care experience as an investor, operator and investment banker. He was co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of Kalologie, a cosmetic dermatology company. Prior to that, Mr. Kirkbride was an investment professional in the health care practice at Highland Capital Partners. Previously, he was a co-founding member of the health care group at Thomas Weisel Partners and a health care investment banker at Raymond James & Associates. Mr. Kirkbride graduated magna cum laude from Vanderbilt University, where he earned Honors in Economics and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He received an MBA from Harvard Business School.

 

Christopher McFadden, Managing Director, has over 12 years of health care industry experience as a research analyst and investor. Prior to joining Health Evolution Partners, he was a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. directing debt and equity investments in private and public North American-based health care companies as part of the Americas Special Situations Group. From 1999 to 2007, Mr. McFadden was a senior equity analyst responsible for Goldman Sachs’ US health care services research coverage and served as a member of the Global Investment Research Sounding Board. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, he worked as a senior research analyst at Wheat First Securities, now Wachovia Securities. Prior to that, he held marketing and management positions at Xerox Corporation. Mr. McFadden received his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Richmond and studied graduate Economics at Virginia Commonwealth University. He became a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) in 1999.

 

Ian McKelvie, Senior Associate, worked as an Associate focused on health care at Arsenal Capital Partners prior to joining Health Evolution Partners. Previously, he worked as a Senior Analyst in the Healthcare Investment Banking Group of Banc of America Securities. Mr. McKelvie received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is currently a second year MBA student at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

 

Carter Paine, Senior Associate, began his career as an investment banker at Robertson Stephens and was an Associate in the Health Care Services Group at Jefferies and Company, where he managed all stages of transactions across a broad range of health care services sectors. During business school, Mr. Paine worked at SV Life Sciences, a health care focused venture capital firm, and also worked in the Corporate Development Group at Healthways. He graduated from the McIntire School at the University of Virginia, earning a Bachelor of Science in Commerce, with a concentration in finance. Mr. Paine received an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, majoring in health care management.

 

William Winkenwerder, Jr. Senior Advisor, is a recognized leader in American health care. He served as Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, in the U.S. Department of Defense beginning in October 2001. He is currently Chairman of The Winkenwerder Company LLC, a health strategy and consulting firm, a Senior Advisor to Deloitte Consulting and the Deloitte Center for Health Solutions, and a board member and advisor to several companies. Prior to serving at the Pentagon, Dr. Winkenwerder worked in the private sector for more than 15 years, and held senior positions at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Prudential Healthcare (now Aetna) and Emory University. Dr. Winkenwerder graduated from Davidson College and the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. He is board certified in internal medicine and received an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
