PRESS RELEASE

AUGUST – Simple Feast, an environmentally friendly plant-food startup from Copenhagen, has raised $12 million in a series A funding so that it can help more people fight climate change by giving up meat.

The funding round is being led by venture capital firm Balderton Capital, with participation from 14W. Existing investors Sweet Capital and ByFounders are reinvesting.

Simple Feast offers ready-to-eat plant-based food that is sustainably produced, organic, and delivered straight to the doorstep. It delivers the food to people’s homes in biodegradable weekly boxes.

Jakob Jønck, CEO and cofounder of Simple Feast, said: “Climate change is real. There is no Planet B and we are facing what is arguably the biggest challenge in human history. We can’t wait for governments to solve this. We offer a way for everyone to act on it in their everyday life.”

“This is a big investment for a small company, but it’s a drop in the ocean considering the challenge at hand, the politicians and industries we are up against.”

According to recent studies on the environmental impact of food at the University of Oxford, giving up meat is the single most impactful change people can make in their lives to fight climate change,

“It’s very difficult for people to make such a change. Most of us grew up learning to cook dishes with meat at the center of the plate and lifestyle changes are hard,” said Jønck.

“Cutting down on meat is hard. Making it a delicious journey is even harder. Beating meat is almost impossible, yet this is what we are trying to do, and we are doing it by offering an alternative that is both better tasting and more convenient, so that it isn’t a sacrifice for those who decide to do it.”

Daniel Waterhouse, a partner at Balderton Capital, said: “What we eat does not only affect our own health, but also the health of the planet. With a global transition towards plant-based food, we believe Simple Feast is uniquely positioned to change the way we eat and create awareness about the impact of our food choices.”
