Data spotlight: NEA, Greycroft, Accel rank as most active VCs in Q3

New Enterprise Associates, which raised $3.3 billion for its 16th fund in June, invested more than $266 million in 35 companies in the third quarter, according to preliminary data from Thomson Reuters.

That number of disclosed deals ranks NEA as the most active venture firm in Q3. (See table below.) Among the firm’s deals was Databricks, a San Francisco-based analytics platform provider. The company raised $140 million in a Series D round of funding led by Andreessen Horowitz with participation from NEA and Battery Ventures.

NEA also invested in Desktop Metal, Raise Marketplace and Transfix, among others.

Following close behind NEA were Greycroft Partners and Accel Partners, with each investing in 25 companies during the quarter. Greycroft invested $27 million while Accel put nearly $239 million to work in its deals.

Sequoia Capital put the most money to work in the quarter, investing $330 million in 18 companies.

GV was the most active corporate VC in Q3, investing nearly $100 million in 18 deals, according to Thomson Reuters.
