David Wurzer has joined Connecticut Innovations as a managing director. He previously was executive vice president, treasurer and CFO for CuraGen Corp. (Nasdaq: CRGN).
Connecticut Innovations (CI), the state’s quasi-public authority responsible for technology investing and innovation development, today announced that it has appointed David M. Wurzer to the position of managing director, investments at CI. In this role, Mr. Wurzer will be responsible for sourcing and analyzing investment opportunities, leading CI investments in entrepreneurial high-tech ventures, and providing strategic advice to CI portfolio companies.
Mr. Wurzer brings extensive experience in operations and finance to CI. He previously served as executive vice president, treasurer and chief financial officer of CuraGen Corporation (NASDAQ: CRGN) of Branford, Conn., managing the company’s initial public offering and helping raise over $700 million for the company. While at CuraGen, Mr. Wurzer negotiated strategic and business development alliances with several pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, including Roche, Bayer, Amgen-Freemont (Abgenix), and Seattle Genetics.

Mr. Wurzer also previously held executive-level positions with Value Health, Inc. of Avon, Conn., including senior vice president, treasurer and chief financial officer. During his seven-year tenure at Value Health, he helped the company achieve exceptional growth, increasing revenues 20-fold to $2 billion and expanding its employment from 400 to 6,000 employees.
Mr. Wurzer launched his career with Coopers & Lybrand in Hartford, Conn. (now part of PricewaterhouseCoopers), where he held various accounting and managerial positions.
Mr. Wurzer is a certified public accountant and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accountancy degree from the University of Notre Dame. He is a resident of Wethersfield, Conn.
