Former FDA Commissioner Gottlieb returns to NEA as special partner

Former Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Scott Gottlieb has returned to New Enterprise Associates as a special partner.

The role is a new one for Gottlieb, who was a venture partner at the firm from 2007 to 2017.

He will serve as a member of the healthcare investment team, paying a special emphasis to biopharma and healthcare services companies, and work out of the Chevy Chase, Maryland, office.

Gottlieb served as FDA commissioner from 2017 to 2019. During his tenure, the FDA stepped up drug approvals and Gottlieb proved active on the issue of teenage vaping. His resignation earlier this year was a surprise.
