Geoff Entress Joins Founders Co-Op

Geoff Entress has joined Founders Co-Op, a Seattle-based seed-stage venture firm, as a general partner. He will remain a venture partner with Voyager Capital, and before that spent eight years with Madrona Venture Group.

PRESS RELEASE

Founders Co-op, Seattle’s newest and most active seed-stage venture fund, today announced that veteran technology investor Geoff Entress has joined the firm as a full-time General Partner, sharing leadership and investment decision-making responsibilities with fund co-founders Andy Sack and Chris DeVore.

“Geoff is hands-down the best angel investor in town,” said Andy Sack, Managing Partner at Founders Co-op. “Chris and I have worked very closely with him for the past few years, both in his role as a Founders Co-op Limited Partner and by participating as a co-investor in Geoff’s own deals, and we couldn’t be more excited about bringing Geoff on board as a full partner in everything we do.”

Andy and Chris created Founders Co-op in 2008, quickly signing on Geoff and a who’s who of local tech entrepreneurs as Limited Partners. The fund has made a dozen investments since, including leading local startups in high-growth sectors like social gaming (BigDoor Media), mobile platforms (Urban Airship), enterprise software-as-a-service (Appature) and online retail (Bonanzle). The firm is also the local affiliate of TechStars, a startup bootcamp program for tech entrepreneurs with a successful track record in Boulder and Boston, launching in Seattle this summer with Sack as Executive Director.

Geoff has been an active angel investor for more than a dozen years, with more than forty investments to his credit in a diverse array of web software, infrastructure and digital media companies across the Pacific Northwest. In addition to his angel activities, remains a venture partner at Voyager Capital, and before that spent eight years with Madrona Venture Group. His successful past investments have included Isilon Systems (NASDAQ GM: ISLN), The Coffee Equipment Company, Shelfari, and World Wide Packets. Geoff’s current angel portfolio includes Bonanzle, BuddyTV, Cheezburger Network, Elemental Technologies, HootSuite, Dashwire and Swype.

“I love working with entrepreneurs at the earliest stages of the company-building process,” said Entress, “and I also believe that’s where the most exciting innovation and value creation in technology is happening right now. Founders Co-op is the only fund in the Pacific Northwest dedicated to investing at this stage, and Andy, Chris and I are committed to making Founders Co-op the go-to source of seed capital for the best software entrepreneurs in the region.”
Geoff has remained active as an independent angel investor throughout his career and recently led a $1 million equity round for fast-growing online retail platform Bonanzle, a deal in which Founders Co-op and Voyager Capital also participated. Says Bill Harding, Bonanzle’s CEO and co-founder, “It was amazing to watch Geoff bring all his relationships to bear on our recent financing, which included participation both from fantastic angel investors and venture firms. I can’t wait to see the positive impact he and Founders Co-op will have on the Seattle startup community in the years to come.”

He is also Vice Chairman of Seattle-based Alliance of Angels and an advisory board member of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the University of Washington and of the Donald H. Jones Center for Entrepreneurship at the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University. He currently sits on the board of directors ofdrugstore.com (NASDAQ GM: DSCM) and several private companies. Geoff is a graduate of The University of Michigan Law School, the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Notre Dame.
