Fahim Saleh, a 33-year-old venture capitalist and CEO of Gokada, a Nigerian ride-hailing startup, was found slain in his New York City apartment earlier this week, reported various media outlets. It was a grisly end to a life that had all the earmarks of early success. Saleh got his start as an entrepreneur at a young age. When he was in high school, he founded PrankDial.com, a website for prerecorded prank phone calls. Most recently, he founded Adventure Capital, a venture capital firm and served as CEO of KickBack Apps, an entertainment app company. In May 2019, Gokada raised $5.3 million in Series A funding. Rise Capital led the round with participation from Adventure Capital, IC Global Partners and First MidWest Group, reported TechCrunch. Gokada “hit a snag earlier this year when Lagos banned commercial motorcycles in the city,” according to CNN. Speaking to the outlet, Saleh said Gokada was pivoting to delivery and working toward launching a boat-hailing service.
