BOSTON – Highland Capital Partners has promoted Steve Harrick and Jo Tango to principals of the firm.
Mr. Harrick joined Highland as a senior associate in 1997 with a specialty in computer software. He has participated in the firm’s investments in WebLine Communications and RoweCom, which recently went public.
“As we all know, software and the Internet are converging pretty rapidly, and there will be a profound change in how people use business,” he said. “Highland wants as much firepower as possible.”
Mr. Tango joined Highland as a senior associate in 1998 after turning down an opportunity to serve as assistant to Chief Executive Jeff Bezos at Amazon.com. Prior to joining Highland, he spent five years with Bain & Co., where he built a $500 million Asian retail business for Royal Ahold and also worked with high-growth companies such as America Online.
“The nexus of my two areas of expertise is e-commerce,” he said.
The two principals will invest through Highland Capital Partners IV, a $250 million fund. To date, Fund IV has invested approximately $75 million in companies in the communications, software and Internet industries.
