Made Renovation, a home renovation startup, has raised $23 million in Series A funding. The investors include Insight Partners, Base10 Partners, Founders Fund and Felicis Ventures.
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — JULY 8, 2021—Made Renovation, a startup that delivers a technology-driven, all-in-one renovation experience to homeowners and efficiency gains to builders, announced today that it has raised $23M in Series A funding from Insight Partners, with participation from existing investors Base10 Partners, Founders Fund, and Felicis Ventures. A group of strategic angel investors also joined this round, including co-founders of Instacart, DoorDash, Lime, as well as [placeholder] In addition to the fresh funding, the company is also expanding operations outside of the San Francisco Bay Area market to homeowners in Los Angeles, Orange County, and Seattle.
“We’re proud to be welcoming new investors as we continue to make renovation easier for homeowners and delight them with beautiful new bathrooms,” said Roger Dickey, co-founder and CEO of Made Renovation. “Beautiful, aspirational spaces can and should be accessible to more homeowners, and our team is looking forward to delivering just that in new regions.”
“I’ve never heard anyone describe their renovation process as easy, but with Made it really was. We couldn’t imagine doing this ourselves while managing our full-time jobs and our kids,” said San Francisco homeowner and Made Renovation customer Alden Y. “All of the complicated logistics were taken care of by our project manager so we could just focus on the fun parts of the bathroom design! Made also took care of all the stressful work so that we didn’t have to—getting permits, finding and managing the contractor, and getting everything ordered. It was all incredibly easy thanks to the Made team.”
Made Renovation has recently revamped its internal project management system that powers the company’s ability to deliver on-time, on-budget renovations. For customers, the company also rolled out improvements to its design and pricing technology, offering design previews as well as more accurate and specific quotes to homeowners looking to take on renovation projects. Together, these updates give Made Renovation customers an ecommerce-like experience when in the critical consideration phase of renovation buying.
“Made Renovation’s digitally managed marketplace is a proven business model that solves the most common pain points encountered by both consumers and general contractors in the home renovation process,” said Nikhil Sachdev, Managing Director at Insight Partners, who will be joining Made Renovation’s Board of Directors. “In this new age of digital disruption heightened by COVID-19, Made Renovation’s all-in-one platform has reimagined the home renovation experience and we are thrilled to see the company continue scaling as they expand to new markets with this round of funding.”
Shifting to a fully-digital experience was a critical move for the business when COVID-19 had homeowners shying away from in-person showroom or home visits. The pandemic brought about changes to buying behavior, including more people becoming comfortable making larger purchases online like home remodels, which for Made customers start at around $15K. According to the company, the pandemic accelerated business 2-3x from prior to COVID. Made now sells over $50K in renovations per day, with hundreds of remodels occurring at any given time.
“Last year’s lockdowns revealed the difference quick and easy bathroom remodels can make both to the livability and value of homes,” noted TJ Nahigian, Managing Partner at Base10 Partners. “We have been thrilled with Made’s progress since leading their Series Seed and could not be more excited to work with the team as they expand into these new markets with affordable, scalable solutions for home renovation.”
