MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – Mpath, a provider of solutions for real-time Internet communities, went public April 29, offering 3.9 million shares of common stock. The stock priced at the company’s offering price of $18.
BancBoston Robertson Stephens, Thomas Weisel Partners L.L.C., Warburg Dillion Read L.L.C. and Wit Capital Corp. underwrote the offering, which left 21.2 million shares outstanding.
Accel Partners, Institutional Venture Partners, CSK Venture Capital Co. Ltd., Sutter Hill Ventures, Intel Corp. and Cox Technology Investments Inc. are venture investors.
Mpath, founded in January 1995, develops, licenses and operates products that allow Internet sites to create live communities where multiple users can interact in real time. The company’s live community business unit operates Mplayer.com, which has preset communities that include sports and gaming, and Hearme.com, which allows users to create specialized topics. The company has never paid cash dividends.
Proceeds from the IPO, worth an estimated $70.2 million, will be used for general corporate purposes.
James Breyer, a general partner of Accel Partners, joined the company’s board of directors in January 1995.
