New Mayfield Partner Notches Two Deals –

MENLO PARK, Calif. – Mayfield Fund’s newly-hired venture partner, Todd Brooks, recently closed two communication-technology deals.

The companies, Avanex Inc. and Qtera Corp., develop photonic components and systems for the telecommunications industry. Mayfield in late March led Avanex’s $6 million Series C round with a $2.25 million commitment, followed a few days later by a $9 million investment in Qtera.

Formerly managing principal of JAFCO America Ventures, Mr. Brooks began his new position February 1. During his four-year tenure at JAFCO, he was responsible for the firm’s telecommunication interests, including infrastructure, technology and services, which led to his involvement with the then incubation-stage Avanex. He currently retains a seat on Avanex’s board and now represents both JAFCO and Mayfield.

Mr. Brooks joins Mayfield’s communications team, which consists of Venture Partner David Ladd, Venture Associate Dana Settle and General Partner Kevin Fong. His duties include deal sourcing, conducting due diligence and representing Mayfield as a director on various company boards.

Mayfield, founded in 1969, invests in early-stage high-technology, information-technology and health-care technology industries.

“I look forward to working with entrepreneurial companies and providing them with the resources and contacts they need to grow,” Mr. Brooks said.
