PRESS RELEASE

San Francisco, Calif — December 7, 2021 — SendOwl, a leading platform to sell and deliver digital products, announced it has raised $4.5M in seed funding from Defy.vc, with participation from Stripe and other investors. Currently, creators and businesses of all sizes use SendOwl to sell through social media, existing websites and blogs, via the SendOwl API, through integrations with Stripe and ecommerce platforms such as Shopify, or anywhere else you can paste a link. To date, SendOwl has delivered nearly 2 billion USD of value in digital and virtual goods for tens of thousands of paying merchants across millions of transactions. SendOwl will use this funding to further accelerate growth and to offer new products and infrastructure to meet the growing needs of the creator economy. Current customers range from Universal Music Group and Kayla Itsines to thousands of independent creators around the world selling anything from ebooks to podcasts, online courses, memberships, coaching services, live remote events, NFT presales, and much more.

Globally there are more than 50 million creators who want to monetize their knowledge, passion, skills, expertise, and audiences. While merchants who sell physical products have an abundance of tools and options to start and grow their businesses, these tools do not effectively support end-to-end commerce for digital goods. By building products and infrastructure specifically for these customers, SendOwl can help increase the GDP of the creator economy.

Matt Plotke, the CEO of SendOwl, was previously a growth leader at Stripe and Linkedin after spending time at McKinsey. Plotke said, “The idea of creator-as-a-business is a relatively new construct. It’s hard to appreciate the complexity that goes into building, marketing, selling, and delivering an array of digital products, services, subscriptions, memberships, or any non-physical product. And with SendOwl, I saw an opportunity to abstract away that complexity of running a creator business for our users.”

Bob Rosin of Defy.vc led the financing and previously worked with Plotke at both LinkedIn and Stripe. “The creator economy is booming, but existing eCommerce infrastructure was designed for selling physical goods. SendOwl makes it simple for any individual or business to easily manage, transact, and deliver digital products and integrates seamlessly with the existing eCommerce stack, and already has demonstrated tremendous traction with tens of thousands of sellers around the world.”

“SendOwl is the best e-commerce solution we have ever tried,” said Mark Morris, co-founder at Introversion software. They are consistently reliable and offer brilliant technical support. It took less than 5 minutes to have the first products up on our site, and their simple, link-based approach gave us the freedom to completely customise our store to best match our customers’ requirements.”
