Peek.com launched its website today to help travelers book restaurants, museum tours and other activies. The site is backed by a bevy of heavyweights, including Twitter and Square co-founder Jack Dorsey; TPG Capital Founding Partner David Bonderman; Innovations Endeavours founder and Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt; Khosla Ventures; and SV Angel. The San Francisco-based company raised $1.4 million from the investors. Peek aims to simplify travel plan bookings. Co-founder Ruzwana Bashir, who previously was at Art.sy and Gilt Groupe, tells peHUB that the average leisure traveler invests seven hours to plan a trip. That includes browsing more than 20 websites, reading guidebooks, and talking to friends and relatives about what they should do while on vacation.
Peek.com, the sleek and stress-free website for travelers to discover and book amazing things to do in a new destination, launches Thursday, October 11th at 10:00AM PST.
San Francisco, Calif. (Oct. 11th, 2012) — Backed by Jack Dorsey (Twitter, Square), Eric Schmidt (Innovation Endeavors), David Bonderman, Khosla Ventures, and SV Angel, Peek.com, launching Thursday October 11th, is a revolutionary new online platform that will fundamentally change the travel experience.
“We believe there are amazing opportunities for a new disruptive force in the $26 billion activities market”, said co-founder and CEO Ruzwana Bashir.
These days, the average leisure traveler spends over 7 hours and visits 22 different websites during the research and planning process. Travelers are increasingly looking for “a trusted source that can provide not only guidance, but context”. (Forrester Research). Despite the fact that 80% of travelers use the Internet to research activities, only a fifth of all bookings are conducted online. This is because forty percent of vendors don’t offer online booking and twenty percent don’t even have a website!
Peek is changing this. Co-founders Ruzwana Bashir, Oskar Bruening and their team have created a beautiful new site to inject some fun into the travel planning process. Whether it’s visiting the MOMA, eating your way through a local culinary walking tour, or biking down volcanic craters, Peek is carefully curating a list of the best things to do in each of their regions, beautifully telling their story, and putting them easily within reach – via computer, tablet or mobile phone. Complementing individual activities are “Perfect Days” which feature hidden gems and insider tips from tastemakers such as Tory Burch, Piers Morgan and French Laundry chef Timothy Hollingsworth.
Peek is a one-stop shop for travelers to discover and book amazing things to do. Peek hand-picks the highest quality activities, displays them beautifully, and makes them easily bookable online for travelers to create an unforgettable trip. The San Francisco based company raised $1.4m in seed funding earlier this year from Eric Schmidt (Innovation Endeavors), Jack Dorsey (Twitter, Square), SV Angel and Khosla Ventures. The company brings together 20+ years experience in travel, e-commerce and technology from the likes of Gilt Groupe, Hotwire, Google and Symantec. For more information, visit www.peek.com.
