Underscore adds fintech entrepreneur as partner

Boston-based Underscore VC announced that Chris Gardner has joined the firm as its newest investing partner. The firm said Gardner will spend a good bit of time looking at fintech start-ups. But the firm also described him as a nerd and tech omnivore, who’s also dabbled in speech recognition, video streaming, mobile marketing, mobile messaging, e-billing and document management. He most recently was with PayPal following that company’s acquisition in 2015 of Paydiant, a fintech start-up he co-founded.
