

NEA veteran Hsiao joins Canvas
Canvas Venture Fund announced that Paul Hsiao has joined the firm as a general partner and founding managing member.
Hsiao moves over to Canvas from New Enterprise Associates, where he served as a partner and was an investor in Houzz, Boingo, Elance, 42Floors and others.
Hsiao becomes the fourth GP at Canvas, which spun out of Morgenthaler Ventures last year and is investing from its $175 million inaugural fund.
Foundation Capital adds VP of marketing, EIRs
Menlo Park, Calif.-based venture firm Foundation Capital has hired Meg Sloan as vice president of marketing. Previously, she worked at Facebook and eBay.
The firm has also hired Srinivas Mantripragada and Geoffrey Wong as entrepreneurs-in-residence. Previously, Mantripragada worked at Infoblox, where he recently served as a vice president of technology, while Wong is a former product manager for Groupon‘s MerchantOS group.
Venrock hires Samuels as partner
Venrock has hired Camille Samuels and Doug Dooley in the firm’s Palo Alto, Calif.-based office.
Samuels, a former managing director at Versant Ventures, joins as a partner to focus on biotech and consumer health, while expanding her focus into healthcare companies.
Dooley, formerly an entrepreneur, will focus on infrastructure technologies and cloud-centric software.
Campise joins SoftBank
Marissa Campise has left Venrock to join SoftBank Capital as a partner. Campise joined Venrock in 2011 from Greycroft Partners. Among the deals she was involved with at Venrock included Klout, which was acquired by Lithium in March, and Burner, which raised $2 million in funding last year.
Industry Ventures promotes May to COO
Industry Ventures has promoted Robert May to COO. In addition to this new position, May will continue as the firm’s chief compliance officer. Also, the company hired Ira Simkhovitch as a senior associate.
OpenView names new associate
Boston-based OpenView Venture Partners has expanded its staff, adding Baiyin Zhou as an associate to its investment team.
In announcing the move, OpenView noted that Zhou is the firm’s first female associate on its investment team and that her hire brings the ratio of female-to-male employees at the firm to 47 percent (16 out of 34).
SV Life Sciences expands team with new hires
SV Life Sciences has hired Dan Burgess, Dr. Ed Mascioli and Dr. Michael Mendelsohn as new venture partners. Burgess was the founder, president and CEO of Rempex Pharmaceuticals while Mascioli was the CEO of Affinium Pharmaceuticals. Previously, Mendelsohn worked at Merck Research Laboratories, where he served as senior vice president and global franchise head, cardiovascular diseases.
Edison appoints new CMO
Lawrenceville, N.J.-based Edison Ventures announced in June that it has hired Kelly Ford as CMO. Previously, Ford worked at SundaySky, where she served as vice president of marketing.
