SoftBank Vision Fund has agreed to invest $450 million in real estate tech company Compass. According to Compass, the capital infusion will be used for U.S. expansion and to increase its investment in technology.
San Francisco-based Syapse, a provider of precision medicine solutions, has named Dr. Aradhana Ghosh as vice president of oncology. Ghosh is a former medical oncologist at IBM Watson Health. Syapse's backers include Social Capital, Safeguard Scientifics, Ascension Ventures, GE Ventures, Intermountain Healthcare Innovation Fund, Merck Global Health Innovation Fund, Medidata Solutions, Roche Venture Fund and Amgen Ventures.
Edwards Lifesciences has acquired Harpoon Medical Inc, a provider of beating-heart repair for degenerative mitral regurgitation, for up to $250 million. Harpoon Medical was backed by Epidarex Capital.
Los Altos, California-based Contrast Security, a provider of security technology that enables software applications to protect themselves against cyberattack, has secured an undisclosed amount of funding. The investors were AXA Strategic Ventures and Microsoft Ventures.
Wellesley, Massachusetts-based Lumicell, a developer of a novel system that enables real-time detection of tumor tissue in patients, has raised $28.7 million in Series C financing. The investors included Launch Capital and BlueIO.
New York City and Paris-based Prose, a maker of hair care products, has raised $5.2 million in Series A funding. Forerunner Ventures led the round with participation from Correlation Ventures.
Sanctuary, a provider of online astrological services, has raised $1.5 million in seed funding. Advancit Capital led the round with participation from Broadway Video Ventures, Greycroft Partners, KEC Ventures and Blue Collective.
WorldRemit, a digital money transfer service, has secured $40 million in Series C funding. LeapFrog Investments led the round with participation from return backers Accel and Technology Crossover Ventures.
Smith & Nephew plc has acquired Plymouth, Minnesota-based Rotation Medical, a developer of treatments for rotator cuff disease, for an initial cash consideration of $125 million. The seller was Pappas Capital.
BitPay, a bitcoin payments solutions provider, is raising $30 million in Series B funding. Aquiline Technology Growth, a fund managed by Aquiline Capital Partners, is the lead investor.
